It's very easy to write pixel art off as not having any realistic application, but of course this is far from true. During my time with the School's production of The End of the World with Prom to Follow, I worked diligently as a set designer (among other things) using my pixel art for the purpose of communal and theatrical betterment. For the project, I made two unique set designs, one for the "gym" and one for the "town"-

Each design was put on one side of a rotating set piece known as a Periaktos, The Periaktos would be spun by the actors, creating a seamless transition from one scene to the next. It was so simple, yet so elegant and the perfect option for the production. It was a true honour working with the SLV theatre department and especially with my fellow students as the show was a Student-led project.
